The plain-language version. No legal padding.
These are the terms for taking part in decide.scot. We have tried to write them the way we write everything else on this site: plainly, and without pretending to be something we are not.
Who can join
- You need a Scottish postcode to complete signup: this project is by and for Scots.
- One account per person. Registering more than once to inflate your own backing is a rules violation and grounds for removal.
- You must be at least 16 years old to register.
Your account
You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, no password to remember. Keep access to that inbox; it's how we know it's really you. Your handle and email are never shown publicly. Your citizen number is the only thing anyone else ever sees.
What you post
You keep the rights to whatever you write here. By posting it, you let decide.scot show it publicly on the platform, attributed only by your citizen number and region, and, if it clears the relevant threshold, fold it into the Blueprint or a future draft of the Foundation Paper under the same terms.
You are responsible for what you post. It must not break the Rulebook: no hate speech, threats, doxxing, illegal content, or spam. Read the full Rulebook.
Moderation
An automated filter, community reporting, a small named moderator team for spam, and a randomly drawn citizen jury for anything serious: hate speech, threats, doxxing, or illegal content. Content can be hidden pending review, and accounts that repeatedly break the rules can be suspended or removed.
What this is not
- Not a registered political party. It runs no candidates and has no legal or governmental authority.
- Not a real financial, government, or legal service. No figure here, tax, budgets, superannuation, currently moves real money. The demo app is illustrative only, clearly labelled wherever it appears.
- Provided as is, by an independent project, with no uptime guarantee and no warranty of any kind.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the project develops. Material changes will be noted here with a new date at the top, the same honesty pattern the Rulebook follows for policy changes.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland.
